The five sections of Pindus Trail
The route consists of 41 daily stages, comprising 5 larger sections. In the following maps you can see the each section separately, as well as the entire route.
1. Central Greece (Delphi - Karpenisi)
The 1st section is located within the boundaries of historical and geographical Roumeli. The trail extends on the slopes of Western Parnassos, stretches over Mount Gkiona, Vardousia Mts., the Mountains Sarantaina (Oxya) and Kaliakouda, ending up in Karpenisi at the feet of mountain Velouchi.
2. Agrafa Mts (Karpenisi - Kapro)
The second section of Pindus Trail extends all over the hiking paradise of Agrafa Mountains. The trail leaves Karpenisi, walks over the arched bridge of Megdovas, over Mt. Kafki, along the riverside of Agrafiotis, over Mt. Delidimi, Mts. Verousia and the village of Kali Komi. Past Agrafa, the trail crosses Mt. Chatzi, ending up at the village of Kapro (Koryfi).
3. Athamanian Mts (Kapro - Metsovo)
The 3rd section of the trail follows the Athamanian Mountains complex from south to North and thereafter enters the massif of Peristeri (Lakmos). Leaving Kapro, the route crosses over Achelous river, ascends Tzoumerka Mts., reaches the famous village of Kallarites and finally, ends up in Metsovo through the forest of Rona.
4. North Pindus (Metsovo - Aetomilitsa)
Pindus Trail 4th section enters one of the wildest and most unspoiled areas of Greece. The route ascends toward Mavrovouni, then to Flenges alpine lakes, through Valia Calda, the Aoos river and then over to Mt. Smolikas. Past Smolikas the trail continues to Mt. Tampouri (Ochyro) and reaching the village of Aetomilitsa, it ascends Mt. Grammos toward the border with Albania.
5. Northwest border (Aetomilitsa - Laimos)
The last section of the route connects Pindus Mountain Range with the Northwestern borders of Greece. The route stretches along borderside villages and through Mount Triklari and overlooking the Prespa lake, climbs Mount Varnountas and then descends to the junction of Laimos at the border.
